Master Bathroom Remodel
The 205th project in Lakeville is a study in what a single-room remodel can accomplish when it's done with absolute commitment to quality. The homeowners had a master bathroom with a lake view — one of the most coveted features in any Minnesota home — but the original bathroom did nothing to take advantage of it. A small window, dated fixtures, and a cramped layout meant that the view was there but the experience wasn't. MSP Homes redesigned the space from scratch to make the lake the centerpiece of the room.
The primary challenge was structural: to take full advantage of the lake view, the window needed to be enlarged significantly — which required a header replacement and careful coordination with the exterior siding. The existing bathroom layout also placed the shower and tub in positions that blocked the view from the vanity, which is where homeowners spend the most time. Reconfiguring the layout to solve this required moving plumbing — a significant undertaking that paid dividends in the final result.

Freestanding soaking tub positioned for the lake view — the centerpiece of the remodel

Walk-in shower — rainfall head, frameless glass, teak bench, large-format porcelain tile
How we solved it
The design philosophy for the 205th bathroom was simple: every element should either frame the view or disappear into the background so the view can breathe. Maria chose a palette of warm whites and soft greiges that recede visually, allowing the lake view to dominate. The freestanding soaking tub was positioned directly in front of the enlarged window — the most deliberate design decision in the project. The walk-in shower was moved to the side wall, with a frameless glass enclosure that maintains the sightlines. Every tile, fixture, and finish was chosen to support this hierarchy.
The centerpiece of the 205th bathroom is a freestanding soaking tub positioned directly in front of the enlarged window — framing the lake view like a painting. The tub is a matte white oval freestanding model with a floor-mounted filler in brushed gold. Soaking in the tub while watching the lake is the experience the homeowners asked for, and it's exactly what they got. It's the kind of detail that makes a bathroom feel like a destination rather than a utility.
The original bathroom window was a standard 3-foot casement that provided a glimpse of the lake but not the view. The new window is a 6-foot picture window that fills the wall above the tub — a structural change that required a new header and careful exterior integration but transformed the room's relationship with the outdoors. The window is positioned at tub height, so the view is experienced at eye level when soaking.
The walk-in shower features large-format porcelain tile in a warm greige, a frameless glass enclosure, a ceiling-mounted rainfall showerhead, and a built-in teak bench. The bench is a practical detail that also adds a spa-like quality to the shower experience. The frameless glass enclosure maintains the sightlines to the lake even from the shower — a detail that required careful planning but makes the shower feel connected to the room rather than enclosed within it.
Heated floors are a Minnesota luxury that MSP Homes recommends for every bathroom project — and the 205th bathroom has them throughout. The floor tile is a large-format porcelain in a warm white with a subtle texture that provides grip without sacrificing the clean, spa-like aesthetic. A custom tile accent band at chair rail height adds visual interest and breaks up the wall tile without introducing a competing pattern.
The Result
The 205th master bathroom remodel is one of the most impactful single-room transformations in MSP Homes' portfolio. The homeowners now have a bathroom that takes full advantage of one of their home's greatest assets — the lake view — and that functions as a genuine spa retreat. The daily routine of getting ready in the morning and unwinding in the evening has been transformed. The investment in quality materials and thoughtful design has created a space that the homeowners use differently than they used the original bathroom — with more intention, more enjoyment, and more appreciation for where they live.
"We had a lake view that our bathroom completely ignored. MSP Homes redesigned the space to make the lake the centerpiece — and now we use the bathroom completely differently. The soaking tub with the lake view is something we look forward to every day."
